The ctenophore Bathocyroë is one of
the most abundant mesopelagic species, but because of its fragility, it
was only described in 1978, when it was collected from a submersible.
This genus, like the
siphonophore Bargmannia, can produce blue and green
luminescence (Approx. length 8 cm).
